Zero Waste
Zero Waste is an overarching approach to waste management. It is practiced successfully by jurisdictions throughout Europe and North America, from Germany to British Columbia. Full blown Zero Waste takes many years to accomplish and involves all levels of government. But if done properly it can significantly reduce the amount of garbage bound for landfill and incineration.
Zero Waste is based upon the philosophy of Extended Producer Responsibility [EPR]. Most waste is the result of poor manufacturing design and our habits as consumers. That is what needs to be improved.
Zero Waste Simcoe is a grass roots environmental group dedicated to helping Simcoe County become a Zero Waste community. It will accomplish its mission by:
- Educating, assisting and involving the entire community
- Having waste producers take responsibility
- Shifting the cost of waste from taxpayers to producers
Are you passionate about moving toward the ideals of a of a zero waste society locally and globally? Do you feel our governments should embrace the 3-R ideals of waste recycling, reuse, reduction and extended producer responsibility [EPR] like the rest of the world?
Be part of our Zero Waste solution and get involved. Zero Waste Simcoe has a growing membership from across our County and beyond.
Together, we can make Simcoe County a Zero Waste community.
